Where Do You Feel That In Your Body?

Hi, my name is Joy, and I am dissociated. Not nearly as much as I used to be, but it still happens. As a somatic practitioner, this is hard to admit.

Not only was I discouraged as a child from paying attention to my physical needs and sensations, but then I spent 28 years being overwhelmed by intense RA pain and discomfort and had to tune it out somehow.

My solution was to exist a fair amount of the time a few inches above my head.


I ask this question about feeling something in the body all the time in sessions. SPRe is all about connecting cognition with sensation, about feeling where in your body an emotion of sensation is happening, and then exploring it.

It has helped me re-inhabit a body I didn’t know I could have.

I really understand it can be hard to want to feel into your body, especially when it is strange, or painful, or unknown. But its YOUR body…and its the greatest source of self-knowledge, guidance, and delight you’ll ever have!
